Description
Took the train up to Poughkeepsie, New York recently to ogle the last of the Autumn foliage. On the way home we passed the ruins of Bannerman Castle sitting on it's little island in the Hudson River. As we neared the castle's location I pointed my camera through the window with my wife holding up a large scarf over the camera and my head in an attempt to eliminate the bright light reflections in the window. With the ISO set at 4000 and the cameras set to continuous I pressed the button and fired away like mad as we sped passed. To my surprise I got at least one blurry image out of the batch that I thought was interesting so had to get it into Photoshop and create this.
This is the remnant of a Scotsman's fortress called Bannerman Castle -- built not as a home, but as an arsenal for his immense collection of weapons. Public access to this island has had a small window of opportunity, curtained by Native American and Dutch settler's fear of resident spirits and goblins, and then restricted since 1900 for more contemporary safety reasons.
