Beautiful photo of a fantastic work of art, Chris. I used to visit it fairly frequently before it was damaged and put behind glass when I lived in Italy. You did a very nice job. It is stunning. f//

Chris Lord replied:

Stunning photograph with great quality, Chris! I am very aware of the intense difficulties in making this photograph, and It is one of the very best. v/f

Chris Lord replied:

Gosh, high praise indeed! Thanks very much, Douglas, yes, it was a bit difficult, getting rid of the reflections in the thick bulletproof glass in front of it was the worst. Glad you liked the results.

Artist's Description

This is probably the world's most famous sculpture of a religious subject. Michelangelo carved it when he was 24 years old, and it is the only one he ever signed. The beauty of its lines and expression leaves a lasting impression on everyone.

With this magnificent statue Michelangelo has given us a highly spiritual and Christian view of human suffering. Michelangelo, on the other hand, created a highly supernatural feeling.

As she holds Jesus' lifeless body on her lap, the Virgin's face emanates sweetness, serenity and a majestic acceptance of this immense sorrow, combined with her faith in the Redeemer. It seems almost as if Jesus is about to reawaken from a tranquil sleep and that after so much suffering and thorns, the rose of resurrection is about to bloom. As we contemplate the Pieta which conveys peace and tranq...

About Chris Lord

Chris Lord

Contemporary Photographic Art and Travel Photography. I'm the Head Pixie and Pixel Pusher at Pixielated Pixels, British born and bred but New York City-based. I first picked up a camera over 50 years ago. After all these years I am finally happy, creating the images I always dreamed of. Shooting film and printing in the darkroom never gave me as much pleasure as powerful computers and Adobe's wonderful software does today. I began working with computers in the mid-1980s, and now I have become confident and competent with the tools at hand and feel that the world has finally caught up with my eclectic artistic vision. Intense and powerful colors and a somewhat surreal take on reality are the way my mind works and I enjoy producing images...
