Description
This is a 21 x 60-megapixel-vertical-image panorama of the Taourirt Kasbah in Morocco. The 21 images were stitched together in Adobe Lightroom.
It was built in the 19th century and reached its peak importance in 1930 when El Glaoui rose to power by assisting the French occupation. Despite its strategic location on a junction route, the El Glaoui chiefs never resided in it. Instead, it was used by the second tier of command, such as sons and cousins of El Glaoui.
This Kasbah boasts 300 rooms, including a kitchen, harem, and a reception room adorned with French tile. The royal apartments are particularly remarkable, featuring stunning cedar ceilings and intricately carved and painted plasterwork. One interesting detail is the irregular staircase, designed as a defense against invaders who would lose speed while navigating the uneven steps. Additionally, there is a gallery showcasing the work of a local artist on one of the floors. The ornate door is of Moorish design, not Berber. Many movies have been filmed at this location, as the Taourirt Kasbah has been a popular filming spot in Morocco.
