Description
A group of five black birds huddled on a wire near Playa Giron in Matanzas, Cuba. The birds are Smooth-Billed Anis and are fairly common in the area. I was lucky to catch these five all looking back in the same direction.
An ungainly bird that seems only loosely stitched together as it moves, the Smooth-billed Ani is a glossy black cuckoo with an oversized bill. Almost always seen in groups, these birds traipse through tangled, shrubby habitats in the tropics of South America and the Caribbean.
